Checkmate

I never learned how to play chess. I used to observe family friends play chess during the summer as a kid. I found it boring. I attempted to learn the chess moves but it didn't register on my brain. I was more interested in other things then.

I did learn how to play dama. When I and my brother play a game it would almost always end up in a fight since I would make up my own rules as the game went on to make me win.

Other board games that I remember playing were Millionaire's Game, Pictionary, Scrabble, Snakes and Ladders, Games of the Generals. It was always fun although I had to restrain myself from throwing a fit when I was losing. I am a very competitive person and I always want to win.

We didn't own any of those board games. Except maybe for Snakes and Ladders. A gift I received from a classmate on my 12th birthday.

I started toying with the idea of collecting those board games. I know I won't be able to use them as often as I would want to but it would be nice to own them as a collection.

So off I went to a toy store. I thought these games costs only a few hundred bucks. I was sorely mistaken. Monopoly costs more than 2k. Pictionary for 1.2k. Scrabble for 900. Expensive.

I ended up not buying one. I still plan to collect those board games. Not now. I'm saving up for a new baby.

Have a great week everyone!

chess. it's the most violent game i know, next to boxing. it can actually be used in real life. hint, hint.

when i'm really angry and i have to retaliate, i use the skill. hint, hint.

learn it. i had an uncle who played it real well. he had a friend and they'd play from noon until sundown. and if you ask them how many sets they played, he'd say two. they didn't use timers.

that's how violent and tactical it is.

Nice entry. Brought back a lot of memories for me.

Played a lot of Scrabble and Chess when I was a child. My father was very good in Chess while my mother was very good in Scrabble. I still have the old chess set that someone gave to my father as a gift when I was about 8 or 9 years old. At this point, I don't think that chess set will go anywhere else for as long as I live.

I did buy a magic 8-ball though... nice ice breaker if i have visitors at home...

Parang natuwa na nalungkot ako sa entry na ito.

It brings back so many good memories at the same time I am regretting now that I didn't keep those board games with me.

Of all the games you've mentioned, Games of the general ang 'di ko matutuhan noon.

i never learned chess as well. i always thought of it as a smart people's game. and i always associated chess with people who are good in math. i hate math so therefore, i hated chess as well.

I'm not very good in chess either, ehehe. I remember the chess scene in Harry Potter. Teka, dun ba yun? Basta yung life-size yung mga chess pieces. Galing nun!

There are chess sets that are really nice, yung mga super expensive. Those are the ones I'd like to buy.

The Scud, try mo yung cinema sa Ishwood. 300 ba yun or 400 bucks, parang ganun. Unlimited popcorn daw and they'll treat you like royalty. Haven't tried it myself though. Ehehe.
